In Memoriam: Ron Warren

Ron Warren, a past president of the Board of Directors, a friend, and great champion of youth, passed away on Saturday, March 8.  He was 73.

Since February of 1999, Ron has served on the Board of Directors for the Boy & Girls Clubs of Redlands, making a difference for the youth of our community.  He used his jovial leadership style and served as Vice President, President, Immediate Past President, and a special one year term as Co-President.

During his Presidency, Ron restructured the Board Committees from nine that reported to the President to three clusters that reported to Vice Presidents.  Ron helped champion our 2004 Let’s Build A Clubhouse Capital Campaign – helping to secure our first major donor.

In June of 2007, Ron received the National Medallion, the highest honor a local Club can bestow on a Board Member, for his unusually devoted service to the Club.

Ron has been a champion of youth for over 30 years – first as a teacher, then as a school administrator and finally as a Boys & Girls Club Board Member.  He will be missed by our entire Boys & Girls Club family.

Letter to the Editor

This letter appeared in the Redlands Daily Facts on Monday, March 3rd, 2008.

"Have you noticed how nice the new Boys & Girls Club looks now that it is finished?  The paint job on the outside looks great -- a cream color with a pretty shade of green on the trim.  My neighbor Betty Buckmaster and I drove by it three times a week on our way to walk in the gym.  So we watched its progress while it was being built.  Now we wanted to see the inside -- so in we went.

Diego Contreras was so gracious to us and gave us a tour of the whole building.  It is so beautiful and looks like such a happy place for our Redlands kids.  As a citizen of Redlands we want to thank the dedicated staff and volunteers.  God bless you. You are making a real difference in the lives and futures of our kids.
